American, born Cuba 1951, Labat has worked as a sculptor, video and installation artist whose work questions the conventional boundaries of art. He has exhibited at MOCA, Los Angeles, MOMA, New York, SFMOMA, San Francisco, among many other galleries and institutions.He has received numerous awards for his work and since 1985 has been chairman of the New Genres Department of the San Francisco Art Institute.
